I love Elena Kalis underwater photos! Between the children riding dolphins, elephants and lions you’ll quickly get that it’s an entire series of photos based on Alice in Wonderland.

Macallan Masters of Photography Collection

June 23rd, 2009 by Xof

The Macallan Fine Oak 30 Years Old from The Macallan Masters of Photography Collection is quite unique.

It mixes great photography and one of finest scotches to hit a man’s lips. Each bottle is packaged with a unique photo from photographer John Rankin or better known as Rankin.
The packaging also includes a luxe black box. Only 75 bottles were made available for North America and as expected the price isn’t cheap, at $1,700 a bottle.

“This unprecedented collection is a portrait of The Macallan brand, composed by Rankin through 1,000 Polaroid photographs of The Macallan estate, Easter Elchies.  Each Polaroid has been consigned to its own bottle of The Macallan Fine Oak 30 Years Old, creating an entirely unique objet d’art that celebrates the artistry and craftsmanship of both single malt Scotch whisky and photography.  Seventy-five limited edition bottles will be available in the U.S.”

Neon Days and Neon Nights

June 22nd, 2009 by Xof

neon

A great collection of images of neon and neon signs by fellow photographer Thomas Hawk.

“When I’m not taking or processing the pictures I’m mostly thinking about the pictures. I’m trying to publish a library of 1,000,000 finished, processed photographs before I die.

The absurdity of my obsessive compulsive view on photography is not lost on me. But it is the absurdity of life that I find most beautiful of all. Where Sisyphus had his stone I have my camera and a bag full of lenses.

Document, explore, lather, rinse, repeat. Photography for me then becomes a kind of hyperactivity, loosely arranged and presented. My work is less about individual images and instead more about the power of a massive amount of excessive and disjointed images where stories, characters and places sometimes stay and other times reappear or disappear entirely for no good reason at all.”

More of Thomas work here.

Helmut Newton and Peter Beard Auctioned

June 1st, 2009 by Xof

newtonmodels

Sotheby´s held an auction for “Photographs” which include selections by two of my favorite photographers : Helmut Newton and Peter Beard.

Prices have come down from their pre-crash levels so no doubt many of the lots will seem like relative bargains when the market recovers.

The sale’s highlight is Newton’s sexy Mannequins Quai D’Orsay, Paris, 1977 (above), estimated at about $18,000 – $27,000. Also on offer is his Winnie at the Negresco, Nice, 1975, est. at about $9,000 – $12,000.

Among Peter Beard’s works in the sale are Cheetah Cub Orphans in Mweiga, 1968, est. at about $22,000 – $30,000, and From ‘The End of the Game’, 1964, est. at about $15,000 – $23,000.
