There is something spectacular happening in Dubai right now… it’s called The Burj Dubai aka the tallest skyscraper in the World.

How tall exactly is top secret. The assumed final height of the building should be anywhere around 2,400 to 3,200 feet, if not more!

You should check out this website, they keep track of the progress since day 1 and have a ton of photos. You can click here to see a full size of the top image, it’s definitely a building I’d like to BASE jump ah!

Emily CG Facial Animation by Image Metrics is Too Real

August 21st, 2008 by Xof

Image Metrics is pushing the limits setting a new standard in digital imagery!!

“One of the attributes that sets Image Metrics apart is their unencumbered video-capture process. Using standard or HD cameras, or a head-mounted camera, an actor’s performance is perfectly captured with all of its nuances and subtleties.

There are no time-consuming markers or makeup to apply. The director is free to capture the performance he or she needs, while the actor has the freedom to move unhindered about the stage. The result is spectacular performance-driven animation every time.”

Emily - the woman in the above animation - was produced using a new modeling technology that enables the most minute details of a facial expression to be captured and recreated.

It’s a monumental achievement, recreating every nuance of human facial expression, skin detail, body language, etc.

Mind blowing!

Sunset Lightning

August 20th, 2008 by Xof

Amazing photo of lightning at sunset in Toronto!

“A great example of being in the right place at the right time.

My sister and I went to the Island after work for some photos and this amazing sunset started to form, so I quickly put the camera on a tripod and started shooting intervals (using the Pclix) for about an hour hoping to capture the lightning.

I have 5 lightning shots out of around 600 photos and this is the best one.”

1900×1200 available here.

Taking Photos in the Rain

August 19th, 2008 by Xof

nubrella

The umbrella was invented some 3000 years ago and has seen no evolution. We continue to rely on the umbrella for protection against all inclement weather conditions until now. Let Nubrella be your new item in your arsenal of weather protection gear and “stay outdoors”!

I think it’s brilliant!!! The NuBrella weighs just 2.6 lbs and with its sleek futuristic oval design, this could be your best new friend if you need to shoot in rainy conditions!

Not exactly our every day weather conditions here in San Francisco but it only takes one time to get caught in the rain to ruin your photoshoot and potentially, your equipment!

It only costs $59.95 and it can be used completely hands free! Even in significant winds…

Oak Alley Plantation

August 19th, 2008 by Xof

Oak Alley

There is a place in Vacherie, Louisiana where you can witness a majestic alley of Oaks.

And that’s where that photo was taken… It’s not CGI, it’s the real deal!

“Oak Alley Plantation is an historic plantation located on the Mississippi River in the town of Vacherie, Louisiana, United States of America. It is protected as a National Historic Landmark. It is named after its distinguishing feature, an alley of a double row of live oaks about 240-meter long, which was planted in the early 18th century, long before the present house was built. The alley leads towards the Mississippi River.

The mansion on the plantation was built by George Swainy between 1837 and 1839 for Jacques Telesphore Roman. Jacques father-in-law, Joseph Pilie, was an architect and is considered the likely designer. The mansion has a square floor plan, organized around a central hall that runs from the front to the rear on both floors. The outside features a free-standing colonnade of 28 Doric columns (on all 4 sides), a common feature among the mansions in the Mississippi Valley at the time.”

Simply stunning!! Click here for a 1600×1200 version.
