WordPress 2.3.2

December 31st, 2007 by Xof

WordPress 2.3.2 is an urgent security release that fixes a bug that can be used to expose your draft posts. 2.3.2 also suppresses some error messages that can give away information about your database table structure and limits and stops some information leaks in the XML-RPC and APP implementations. Get 2.3.2 now to protect your blog from these disclosures.

As a little bonus, 2.3.2 allows you to define a custom DB error page. Place your custom template at wp-content/db-error.php. If WP has a problem connecting to your database, this page will displayed rather than the default error message.

For more detail on what’s new in 2.3.2, view the list of fixed bugs and see the changes between 2.3.1 and 2.3.2.

AlienBees Ringflash

December 28th, 2007 by Xof

Ringflashes have always been very popular, especially amongst fashion photographers!

Because a ring light emits a nearly uniform cone of light that’s essentially on axis with the camera’s view, no part of your subject will cast an annoying shadow visible from the camera position.

The new ABR800 from AlienBees are not only affordable ($399.95) but also come with a line of modifiers and accessories that make it a flexible light source for any studio. Light being the keyword!

No need of heavy equipment here like most ringflash products that are based on the pack and head lighting system and therefore require a power pack which is independent of the flash unit.

The ABR800 is a stand alone device which contains it’s own power supply, eliminating the need for a separate power pack!

What I really like about the ABR800 are the optional accessories… You don’t usually get much accessories, reflectors or mounting options with a ringflash. AlienBees makes sure you get it all for a very low cost!

A good way to end the year!!

Adobe is Spying on You

December 28th, 2007 by Xof

psdspy.png

Dan from UneasySilence.com discovered that Adobe is spying on users application habits.

Adobe doesn’t deny it but claims it only serves the purpose to gain “business insight into how to create better user experiences.

It’s the digital age, I know and applications can potentially send whatever information they want to wherever they want.

Sometimes they do this for good reason, on your explicit request. But often they don’t. This is definitely an invasion of privacy!!

Another good reason to use a software like Little Snitch to monitor who your computer is talking to!

Photo in Stereo

December 27th, 2007 by Xof

loreo-3d-lens-cap.JPG

The Loreo 3D Lens in a Cap (patent pending) is a new gadget for SLR cameras with interchangeable lenses. And like any gadget, it’s necessity is quite debatable ah!

It’s basically a cap that turns a standard or digital SLR into a 3D camera. What does it mean? Well, it means that the Loreo 3D will take a photo from what your right eye sees and pretend your left eyes sees it too… for $73.
It ships with a choice from 7 common mount types - Canon EOS, FD, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax K, Minolta MD and AF but only if you have a NON full-frame sensor (like the Nikon D3).

Apple Breaks $200 Mark

December 26th, 2007 by Xof

Apple at $200

Today was a good day for Apple… In the early before market hours, the share traded for $200.70 before reaching $200.88 later in the afternoon!

This is the first time in Apple’s history that the shares hit the $200 mark, proving that the investors have confidence in the company and Steve.

“I am not surprised that Apple hit the $200 mark. Apple has a lot of momentum right now as the company is riding several new product cycles.

Seyrafi, who rates the stock “Buy” with a $225 price target, said sales of the iPod Touch and video-enabled Nanos are helping Apple’s margins. Apple’s component costs are benefiting from declines in NAND flash memory prices.

Looks like their business is strong even though retail sales growth in general appears to be weaker than in prior years,” Seyrafi said.

A 134.5% increase compared to last year, and no, it’s not (yet) thanks to the iPhone…

iPhone sales picked up significantly after Apple slashed the price by $200 to $399 in early September. Mr. Munster estimated Apple sales volume picked up by 70% after the price cut.

Still, the iPhone wasn’t a big contributor to Apple’s financial results, accounting for only $118 million in revenue for the quarter. The company reported $636 million in deferred revenue related mostly to the iPhone that it plans to recognize over the next two years.

Time to buy some AAPL if you haven’t yet!!

Keeping your Apps Up to Date

December 20th, 2007 by Xof

AppFresh

AppFresh helps you to keep all applications (third-party and Apple), widgets, preference panes and application plugins on your Mac up to date, from one place.

Which is pretty cool since too many apps still don’t check for update at start up!

“How do you keep track of the latest versions for all your installed applications?

Apple’s built-in Software Update helps keep software like iTunes and Mac OS X updated, but what about the rest?

A lot of applications on your Mac don’t include their own update checker and even if they do, they don’t work from a central place.

With AppFresh, you’re in control to decide what updates get installed. Spend your time using your applications, not keeping them up to date.”

AppFresh is currently work in progress, but still worth trying.
