Death of a Photographer

September 28th, 2007 by Xof

deathphotog.JPG

Police are cracking down on the protest and protesters in Myanmar resulting in several injured and even the death of a Japanese photographer.

He was lying injured on the ground when a soldier got closer and shot him before moving on… Three others were killed on the spot, bringing the number of deaths to nince so far.

In 1988, over 3,000 people were killed during the uprising. Nine years later, monks initiated a peaceful protest, inspiring rally from all over the country.

But yet again, the military was used to silence the protesters and restore “calm”. A tragedy is happening in front of our eyes and unfortunately, our leaders are not doing what needs to be done to prevent another massacre from happening.

September 27th, 2007 by Xof

iphoneupdate.JPG

The infamous firmware update comes a day earlier than expected and is quite a major update!

Jumping straight from 1.0.2 to 1.1.1, this update will bring you :

  • iTunes WiFi Music Store
  • New Calculator Icon
  • Data Roaming ON/OFF
  • Home button double click feature
  • iTunes custom ringtones
  • Space bar double tapping
  • Landscape view in Mail attachments
  • TV Out - Connect your iPhone to a TV (YES!!!!) to watch movies or show your photos!
  • Stocks (bigger display and can be re-ordered)
  • Apple Bluetooth Headset battery status in the Status Bar
  • New Passcode lock time intervals (4H added)
  • Many minor updates to be found

There are several bug fixes also included like louder speakerphone-receiver and adjustable alert volume.

Make sure to watch the cool video detailing the major improvements, it’s pretty cool!

If you have unlocked your phone, DO NOT upgrade! For more update on the state of the unlocking, check Gizmodo as they keep a minute by minute update on what’s going on with the Dev Team.

Let’s see how long it’s gonna take the DevTeam to patch the unlock process!

P.S. After the update, your iPhone will go in “Activation Mode” and show a “Emergency Calls Only” screen but no need to stress, everything comes back to normal within a few seconds. Also, the iPhone seems snappier than before…

Q&A on Nikon D3

September 27th, 2007 by Xof

Nikon D3

That’s one of the reason why I like checking Scott Kelby’s blog, he’s got the inside info on everything image related!

In a recent post, he went through a Q&A about the Nikon D3 based on a series of questions submitted by email and phone.

Needless to say, it’s a very valuable article since only a handful of photographers around the globe got the chance to test drive the Nikon D3 so far.

In two lines, here is his conclusion :

Q. Have you already placed your order?
A. Are you kidding? I’m already on the waiting list for it to ship. :)

Need I say more??

A True Bad Ass

September 25th, 2007 by Xof

fight1a.JPG

The saying “A photo is worth a thousand words” never has been more true!

Check this out, this couple from Montana were out riding on the range, he with his rifle and she (fortunately) with her camera. This is what happened…

“Their dogs always followed them, but on this occasion a Mountain Lion decided that he wanted to stalk the dogs (you’ll see the dogs in the background watching). Very, very bad decision…

The hunter got off the mule with his rifle and decided to shoot in the air to scare away the lion, but before he could get off a shot the lion charged in and decided he wanted a piece of those dogs. With that, the mule took off and decided he wanted a piece of that lion.

That’s when all hell broke loose… for the lion.

Nikon D3 Review and Photos Sample

September 24th, 2007 by Xof

nikonbodyalu01.JPG

Our buddy at DPReview just published a preview-review on the Nikon D3 and it’s looking damn good!

“One clever new feature on the D3 is the Virtual horizon, it provides an aircraft-cockpit type live virtual horizon on the LCD monitor indicating the current orientation of the camera, perfectly horizontal or vertical and the camera axis line turns green (shown on the right below).”

And for those who’d like to experience the D3 “live”, here is a small gallery of sample images… Enjoy!
