SeeSaw Magazine

April 30th, 2007 by Xof

seesawSeeSaw is an on-line photography magazine dedicated to work that successfully captures, represents, and encourages acute observation via the photographic medium.

They started in 2004 and I am quite surprised I never heard about it before…

SeeSaw editors believe that the most powerful and compelling photography is made in response to reality itself.

When it’s inspired by the gravity of experience, draws attention to what might otherwise go unnoticed, preserves what one marvels at in a moment, or evokes that which one feels should never be forgotten.

With a new issue every season, they will consider any new submission, if you feel up for it, just contact them!

They also encourage writers to engage directly with photography, and regularly preset essays, reviews, and interviews that delve deeper into the stories, histories, emotions, meanings, and abstract issues that often lie behind photographic imagery.

I encourage you to check the previous issues as well, some damn fine works!

Steve Jobs and the SEC Part II

April 26th, 2007 by Xof

Steve Jobs

Apple Board Members Bill Campbell, Millard Drexler, Albert Gore Jr., Arthur D. Levinson, Eric Schmidt and Jerry York today released the following statement today, two days after a statement made by Fred Anderson’s attorney regarding settlement of claims with the SEC

“We are not going to enter into a public debate with Fred Anderson or his lawyer.

Steve Jobs cooperated fully with Apple’s independent investigation and with the government’s investigation of stock option grants at Apple. The SEC investigated the matter thoroughly and its complaint speaks for itself, in terms of what it says, what it does not say, who it charges, and who it does not charge.

We have complete confidence in the conclusions of Apple’s independent investigation, and in Steve’s integrity and his ability to lead Apple.”

By issuing such statement, the board backs up Steve 200% where usually, CEOs get their heads chopped off on similar issues.

We’ll all agree that the whole thing is messy and that Steve fucked up pretty good on this one, but c’mon Fred, no need to pour buckets of oil on the fire.

Ratting Steve out was bad enough!

Anderson settled the charges for a payment of a civil penalty of $150,000 and disgorgement of “ill-gotten gains” of approximately $3.5 million.

Speaking of Steve, he is not quite out of troubles just yet.
Mainly because another co-worker also claims they were just following Steve’s instructions…

Last year, Jobs handed back to Apple 4.6 million of his restricted shares - worth $295 million - to pay the taxes on his restricted share grant.

His remaining restricted shares are worth about $496 million.

But given the rise in Apple’s stock over the last four years, even that turned out to be a bad deal… Had he held on to all of his options, they would be in the money by about $4 billion right now, even if the 2001 grant had been given the December date.

And since the S.E.C. also says it won’t enforce charges on Apple, there is still little debate that mistakes were made, even if they were more likely a result of incompetence than criminal intent. The stock climbs on the news.

It’s quite possible Apple will have a rather large fine levied against it.
