Rob Griffiths is a Mac user and author at macworld.com who started experimenting with Windows on his Mac a year ago. He decided not to install any third-party antivirus, anti-spyware, or anti-malware applications. He wanted to get a real sense for what a Windows user was up against. And as you can imagine, it’s not a good news!
“Somehow, somewhere, my virtual Windows XP installation had been infected by a member of the rbot family of malicious software. This one seems particularly nasty, as it allows remote control of the target machine via an IRC server. Definitely not something you want hanging around on your machine. Thankfully, as seen in the screenshot, Windows found and removed this hack all by itself.”
The good news for Rob is that the Windows installation with Boot-Camp is completely separate from the OS X installation—Windows can not see the Mac partition at all. His virtual machine is a completely self-contained unit, so that anything malicious won’t be able to do something like erase the files it finds on a shared folder.
Now Rob has to find a good anti-virus and install it on his virtual machines… Welcome to the Microsoft world

Earlier this month, I was writing about Copyright and Creative Commons Licenses. And speaking of the devil, Creative Commons just launched the Version 3.0 a few days ago. What’s new? Mostly this :

- Anti-DRM language - possible parallel distribution language
- BY-SA — Compatibility Structure Now Included
It’s definitely an improvement but you can do more than that to protect your photos on-line.

RAW image format used to be limited to high-end digital SLR cameras. Meaning unless you knew what you were doing or were a professional photographer, you were “unable” to take advantage of it. Not anymore!
See, RAW images are like digital negatives. You can never alter them or mess up. The recorded information by the sensor will always remain intact! Even when you save a RAW file, you actually save the modifications you’ve made as an attachment to the original. Allowing you to come back to the original version at any time…
It’s easier and less memory consuming to shoot in JPEG mode, but depending on the quality settings in-camera and on how good the JPEGs are created, you can end up with some “good” or “crappy” photos.
