Epson Stylus Pro 3800 - A Killer Printer at a Killer Price!

September 28th, 2006 by Xof

I just love those guys at B&H… Not only do they have the BEST online and on site service, but they have great price and write great articles. This time I am talking about the Epson Stylus Pro 3800.

For those who aren’t familiar with this printer, it’s probably the closest thing you can buy to print in professional quality (9 inks) up to 17×22″ @1440Dpi and 43.2lb (damn!) for less than $1,300!! So what do you get for the $$$??

160 MP Anybody?

September 25th, 2006 by Xof

Not too long ago, I mentioned how those Swiss can be crazy sometimes… Not that often, but once in a while they come up with some pretty amazing shit, like the Seitz 6×17 160 mega pixel panorama camera!!

Ok, that thing looks funny the way the guy is holding it, it seems pretty big… Of course, the camera is hand-made in Switzerland and is unique.

LEICA M8 - WTF is wrong with those Swiss??!!

September 12th, 2006 by Xof

Eventho if I know some Pro who are wetting their pants as I write this article, the Leica M8 can kiss my French ass!! With a street price of $4,750 (it’s not a typo…), NO fabric shutter, NO manually cocking?! Yeah, maybe I’ll pass…

There’s some interesting tech in it though. The sensor uses an uneven array of micro lenses to try to compensate for the light fall off inherent to larger sensors. But seriously now… 5 gees for this???!!!

Samsung 64gb CF’s

September 11th, 2006 by Xof

SAMSUNG Announces First 40-nanometer Device — 32 Gb NAND Flash with Revolutionary Charge Trap Technology

Ok, I need to laugh out fucking LOUD!! Some might say “f*ck crapping out, that is a hard drive killer!!” but it’s all relative…

I doubt Samsung’s expecting P&S users to buy these.

But if you’re shooting with a MF back that takes CF (yes, they exist) where you’re dealing with 50MB RAW files, then you’re going to want some hefty storage.

You guys realize this card will most likely be, like… $10,000, right?

Price per MB of flash memory is ridiculously high still.
